Who Wants Me?

Who Wants Me?

My heart ached. Nobody wants me.

I dreamed I was sitting in the middle of an auction. People everywhere. I glanced down at my
clothes, all stained and torn. Every eye in the place focused on me. It was my turn on the auction
block. The auctioneer pointed at me and said,

“Here’s a man who looks like he’s lived a rough life. He’s probably homeless to boot.

He could make someone a good handyman. Who will start the bid at $25?”

The room was silent. My heart seemed to freeze, then pound. I’m not even worth $25?

“Oh, come on now, the man does have some life left in him. How about $20?”

Not a sound came from the crowd. I slid down a little lower in my seat.
“Not even $20? How about $15? Maybe $10?”

My heart dropped down to my toes. I felt overwhelmed as if the room was closing in on me.

“Oh no,” I thought, “it’s back out on the street for me. Winter is coming. I’ll have to face the cold.
I can almost feel the hunger pains wrap around my body.

All eyes seemed to glance towards me. I saw the pity on their faces.

“How did it ever come to this?” I thought. “If only I had listened to the people who tried to warn
me. “If you don’t stop drinking,” they said, “you’re going to ruin your life and destroy your family.”

My wife had left me. My children wouldn’t have anything to do with me, and because of the way I had treated them, I didn’t blame them.

My stomach churned. I felt so hopeless and afraid. “What will become of me?”
A sudden noise caused everyone to look in the back of the room. A man stood there, dressed in a
long white robe. He had scars on his hands. “I want him,” he said, “I love him. I will pay with all my blood, sweat, and tears. I will give my life for him.”

The auctioneer pounded the gavel on his desk. “SOLD,” he shouted, “He’s all yours.”

My heart almost burst through my chest. “Somebody wants me,” I thought. ” This man with the love in his eyes thinks I’m worth something. He walked towards me and held out his hand. His face seemed to glow.

A jolt surged through my body. I jumped up. His scarred hand reached for me. With His touch, all my burdens lightened. I felt like a new man. The weight of the world lifted off my shoulders.

A wave of adrenaline raced through my body. Hand in hand we walked away. My new life was
about to begin.
