Snow was falling but not too hard. Although we didn\u2019t like to be out in bad weather we figured it was safe to attend our marriage class. We spent another two and a half hours in class. Afterwards we enjoyed a snack.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHmm,\u201d \u2026this is good.\u201d Rick said, \u201cwhat is it\u201d?<\/strong>\u201cCarrot cake,\u201d I said, \u201cit tastes almost as good as the Amish make.\u201d<br \/>Outside I pulled my coat tighter and traipsed in snow that came above my short boots. The biting wind slammed into our faces. \u201cHere,\u201d Rick said, as he wrapped his arms around me, \u201clet me help you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>He guided me into the truck through the heavy snow.<\/strong>\u201cOh, I should have warmed it up first,\u201d he said. His breath looked like a misty <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5281 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/snow-storm-snow-snowstorm-596351-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"snow storm, snow, snowstorm-596351.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/snow-storm-snow-snowstorm-596351-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/snow-storm-snow-snowstorm-596351-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/snow-storm-snow-snowstorm-596351-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/snow-storm-snow-snowstorm-596351.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>cloud.<br \/>Rick started the truck and headed for the expressway. \u201cI\u2019m glad you\u2019re driving,\u201d I said, \u201cI don\u2019t do well driving in bad weather.\u201d<br \/>\u201cYou just have to take it slow, Babe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our vision was not clear at times, with the heavy snow.<\/strong> Plus the fog faded in and out.\u00a0 Closer to home, as we were about to cross the bridge, we noticed flashing red lights.<br \/>Coming upon the bridge we saw that someone had run into the guardrail. A police car had pulled up behind him and a policeman was standing outside his car. Unbeknownst to us, the fog had created a mist on the bridge and caused it to ice over.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0When he swerved to the left we hit black ice.<\/strong> Our truck went into a tailspin and whipped us around with a force Rick couldn\u2019t control.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5276 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/wandasmaxey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Sep-6-2016-IMG_3401--2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\u201cPlease,\u201d I prayed, \u201cdon\u2019t let us hit that policeman.\u201d<br \/>On our second trip around we just missed hitting the officer. The truck whipped us around again and barely missed the guardrail. My heart was pounding, dreading the impending crash, and worried about the icy water below.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe road before the bridge was fine but I remembered reading a sign that said, Bridge ices before road.\u201d <\/strong>The truck whipped us around and around, like my speeding thoughts, \u201cDon\u2019t let us hit the guardrail or go over the bridge. Keep the policeman safe. Do we have our wills in order?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>I felt like we were taking a ride on the Tilt-a-Whirl at Cedar Point.\u00a0<\/strong>When the truck finally came to a halt we were heading down the expressway going the wrong way. A car was heading straight for us. He managed to stop just before we would have crashed. It all happened so fast. Somehow, during our wild ride, the trucks motor had died. Even though Rick never touched it, the key in the ignition was off. He started the truck, and was able to back up, cross lanes and head north on the expressway although we needed to go south.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0We both let out a sigh of relief and thanked the Lord for keeping us all safe.<\/strong> A verse came to mind, \u201cPsalm 91:11. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.\u201d<br \/>\u201cYou\u2019re not going to drive home on the expressway, are you?\u201d<br \/>\u201cNo,\u201d he said, \u201cI\u2019ll get off here as soon as I can.\u201d<br \/>He got off at the next exit and we headed home on the back roads.<br \/><strong>Walking into our home we both dropped to our knees.<\/strong> We thanked the Lord, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5497 alignright\"
